Not Sure How You Want to Get Involved?

The ECA web site has a volunteer coordinator, Dretta Peterson. Reach her at dpetersod@aol.com. Dretta can help you figure out how you would like to get involved.

ECA works directly, or with its many partners in the Eastport Community, on activities and programs to improve and support our community. Many of these programs could use your help. Getting involved not only helps others but also is a great way to meet people in your community and learn more about what makes Eastport a wonderful place to live. Here is a quick rundown of some activities and contact information to learn more about them:

Eastport Girls Club—A mentoring program for girls living in public housing communities. Contact Karen Feldman at kfeldman@jasarinc.com for more information.

Environmental Action for Eastport—If you are interested in getting involved in Eastport EcoAction (see article on page 4) or just want to know more, contact Cara Visconti at caravisconti@hotmail.com.

Listen to a Child Read—ECA is helping to support an effort by HACA to increase reading fluency among children at Eastport Terrace/Harbor House. Come to the Eastport Community Center on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 and listen to a child read out loud. Contact Diane Butler at 443-253-7263 for more information.

House and Garden Tour, June 2012 (date TBD)—A wonderful event that draws on lots of different skills. For example, we need docents to take a two-hour shift at each house and lots of other needs. Working on the Tour is fun and you meet a lot of your neighbors. For more information, contact Jenny Kottler at jenny@kottlerworks.com.

Neighborhood Watch—If you haven’t already signed up for NW there is a registration form on page 7 of this newsletter. If you would like to know more about how to get involved in this program, contact Sharon Durland at sharonelise@gmail.com for information.

■ Family Night Dinners—These evenings promote community with our neighbors in public housing and include some performance or craft activity followed by a dinner. In December Santa arrived on a fire truck to the great delight of all ages. For more information, contact Jane Lawrence at jwlawrence2@verizon.net.
