Update: A subsequent donation drive resulted in the purchase of more uniforms which were proudly worn for the Annapolis Memorial Day Parade in 2011. See the photos below.

"Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!"... that is what Pat Montague, Director of the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corp told me when I gave her the news that in less than 72 hours ECA raised another $1000 so that they could pay off their I.O.U. for the band equipment they purchased from a defunct Drum and Bugle Corp in Baltimore.  This ups ECA's donation to $2400 and the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps is going strong.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our members and a few very large donations, we quickly raised this money which will do so much good in our community.

methodist churchI also want to thank those who donated warm clothing and toiletries for the Eastport United Methodist Church homeless shelter which in currently in operation for one week, then the shelter will move to another church for a week, and so on throughout the winter.

It gives me great pride to be associated with so many good people who open their hearts either through volunteering, donating money, donating clothing/food or donating time to the betterment of Eastport.

Hope everyone has a happy Holiday season.

President

ECA has made a $1400 donation to the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps. The money was put toward purchase of equipment from a defunct bugle corps in Baltimore.

ECA is supportive because this group touches children in our community and involves many of the parents of the children.By providing this equipment, we hope to allow the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corp to attract even more kids and parents into their program.

The mission of the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps is to enlighten, challenge and lead our youth to the highest levels of performance, professionalism, and musical competence.  Every effort will be made to facilitate the knowledge, skills and awareness of the responsibilities and work ethic needed to improve personal achievement, self-esteem, social competence and positive behaviors.

annapolis drum & bugle corpsThe Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps made its first appearance in the city's July 4th Parade in 2008 with seven members carrying a banner that read "NOW FORMING... ANNAPOLIS DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS."

Membership has now grown to 70. There is no age requirement to participate - current members range in age from 4 to 82. But the main goal is to reach at-risk youth.

The majority who participate can't afford the activities offered at some of the city's recreation centers. Young people are encouraged to work together, and one of the best ways to do that is through music. In order for that to occur, everybody has to be on the same key.

This year, the Annapolis Drum & Bugle Corps has participated in numerous parades, bringing first place trophies home from competitive performances. Articles about the Corps have been published in The Capital and Annapolis Times. Also, slide shows were posted at Hometownannapolis.com and bgcaa.com with Kids Walk photos.
