The Area 8 Commander of the Maryland Natural Resources Police tells the fascinating history of the NRP, which began in 1868 as the State Oyster Police Force, and reveals the story behind the visiting exhibit featuring a relic of the Oyster Wars: an 1868 cannon that battled “piratical Virginia oyster crews.”

Barbara Tagger and Orna Garnett, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad
Orna Garnett gives a stirring living history interpretation of the “Moses” of runaway slaves, while Barbara Tagger discusses the new Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park Initiative on the Eastern Shore. This program is a partnership with the Chesapeake Children’s Museum and the Four Rivers Heritage Area.
As part of the Four Rivers’ Maryland day celebration, admission to this program is only $1 per person.

The Tall Ships are Coming 2012!

According to Eastport's own SpinSheet, Operation Sail (OpSail) will partner with the U.S. Navy to celebrate the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the “Star Spangled Banner” with a journey of tall ships from more than 25 countries to New Orleans, New York, Norfolk, Baltimore and Boston. The fleet will sail into the Chesapeake Bay in June 2012. Click here to read the January issue of SpinSheet. The article begins on page 16.

City Council
Regarding City Council Meetings
The Annapolis City Council, which consists of the Mayor and eight Aldermen and Alderwomen, meets on the second Monday of the month for its Regular Meeting at 7:30 p.m. and the fourth Monday of the month for its Special Meeting at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, City Hall, Second Floor, 160 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, Maryland, 21401.
The Regular Meeting allows the public to make petitions, reports, and other communications directly to the Council. The Council takes legislative action and holds public hearings at both meetings. As required from time to time, the Council also holds additional special meetings to consider legislative and policy matters in depth.
Additionally, the Council holds work sessions the third Thursday of each month at 1:15 p.m. in City Council Chambers.
City Council Agendas are generally posted on this website about five days prior to the hearing. City Council meetings are generally televised live and re-run at a latter date. (See COA-TV) The meetings can be viewed on channel 99/100 for Comcast subscribers and channel 34 for all Verizon subscribers.
